Jonathan Facemyre
Thursday, September 4, 2014 Scott Depot man sentenced to 15 years for murdering brother By Ryan Quinn, Staff writer WINFIELD -- A Scott Depot man was sentenced to 15 years in prison Thursday for stabbing his brother to death on their parents’ front porch.Jonathan Facemyre, 26, of Thomas Drive, pleaded guilty on July 3 to second-degree murder in the August 2013 death of Michael Facemyre, 36. The charge carried a maximum 40-year sentence. With time already served and good behavior, he could be released in less than seven years. The brothers lived together and had a long history of fighting each other. Michael Facemyre had numerous domestic violence charges, and his brother had two or three on his record, said Putnam County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Sorsaia. In court Thursday, their father, James Facemyre, and Jonathan Facemyre’s attorney, Herb Hively, requested the minimum sentence of 10 years, suggesting the killing was in reaction to Michael Facemyre’s violence. James Facemyre, 61, said the killing was nothing like “Cain and Abel” and said Michael Facemyre had a terrible drinking problem and was usually the one beating up his brother. “He was always violent toward his brother and the rest of the family, but mostly to himself,” James Facemyre said. “He just hadn’t found himself yet.” Neighbors Sam and Jeanine Carpenter, who said they’ve known Jonathan Facemyre since he was a young boy, said he wasn’t violent and requested a light sentence. “Unfortunately, we did see a different side out of Michael,” Sam Carpenter said. Putnam Circuit Judge Joseph Reeder said Michael Facemyre now has no chance to turn his life around like his brother. “In the society that we live in, it’s just not acceptable to solve our differences ... at the end of the knife,” Reeder said, before sentencing Jonathan Facemyre to 15 years, with more than a year already served. Facemyre told his family he loved them before being led away from the courtroom. He’ll be eligible for parole in nine years, and Hively said he could get out in around six-and-a-half years with good behavior. Sorsaia has said prosecutors agreed not to pursue a first-degree murder charge after Facemyre’s family said they opposed it. If the case had gone to trial, the defense might have also been able to argue for a lesser charge, voluntary manslaughter, which is generally for intentional killings that occur “in the heat of passion.”According to an affidavit from Sgt. Lisa Arthur of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, a dispatcher got a call around 1 a.m. on Aug. 14, 2013, from Samantha Facemyre, Jonathan and Michael’s sister. She said, over screaming in the background, that Jonathan had struck Michael, who was bleeding and needed help. In the background a man could be heard saying, “How do you like that, you piece of s---?”The younger Facemyre told his brother before he died that “I will finish you off if you want me to,” their sister reported. Michael Facemyre was taken to CAMC Teays Valley, where he was pronounced dead.James Facemyre, a truck driver, said he was in Alabama when the murder occurred. He asked his son Michael to straighten his life out the morning of the incident, before he left for work.“You’re either going to wind up dead or in jail,” James Facemyre said. “Doggone if it didn’t happen to one of each.” Reach Ryan Quinn at ryan.quinn@wvgazette.com, 304-348-1254 or follow @RyanEQuinn on Twitter.

High school boys basketball: Mountain View escapes with 52-47 win over neighbor Timpanogos By Brandon Gurney, Deseret News Published: Friday, Jan. 10 2014 10:10 p.m. MST Updated: 9 hours ago OREM — It's seldom easy to win on the road against a region foe. Mountain View found that out Friday night in its hard-fought 52-47 victory over crosstown rival Timpanogos. The Bruins withstood a furious last-minute rally, led by Timberwolves senior Zach Facemyer, to escape with the win. "It's always good to win on the road in region, but yeah, we really have some things we need to work on following this one," said Bruin coach Nate Crandall. The big lesson is simply closing out a team when you have it on the ropes. Mountain View appeared poised to coast to victory up 48-35 with just 4:13 remaining, but Timpanogos, and particularly Facemyer, had other ideas. The Timberwolves' standout senior scored every point during a 12-2 scoring run that nearly brought his team all the way back. Facemyer finished with 21 points — 14 of which came in the fourth quarter. "They really played well and they're a great team," Crandall said. "It's never easy closing out a team like that on the road, but we certainly have to do a better job than we did tonight. We'll work on that this coming week for sure." The good news for Mountain View was that it was able to build a big lead before the furious last-minute charge. The Bruins took an early advantage and slowly built it to double-digits at the half — entering the locker room up 29-19. The Timberwolves chipped away at the lead in the third to be down only six points, 39-33, entering the fourth. "We were able to put some good pressure on them early in the game and that led to some turnovers and easy baskets," Crandall said. "It's a good thing we built that lead. We needed it, turns out." Mountain View was led by senior guards Manuel Ortiz and Spencer Conrad, who finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively. With the win Mountain View improves to 10-1 on the year and 1-0 in region play. It will next travel to take on Murray this coming Tuesday. Timpanogos falls to 5-7 on the year and 0-1 in region play. Next up for the Timberwolves is a road game against Orem, also on Tuesday. Email: bgurney@desnews.com Twitter: @BrandonCGurney

BELPRE, Ohio — Not the start the Eagles had hoped for.

The Eastern boys basketball team surrendered 22 first quarter points to Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division host Belpre Friday night. EHS fell to the Orange and Black 59-41, making it four consecutive losses to start the season for the Green and Gold.

The Eastern Eagles (0-4, 0-3 TVC Hocking) trailed 22-9 after the opening period and Belpre (2-3, 2-1) opened its lead up to 37-18 at halftime. Following the intermission the Green and Gold outscored BHS 12-to-8 but Belpre answered back and outscored EHS 13-to-11 in the fourth period to seal the 59-41 win.

Christian Speelman led EHS with 14 points including a pair of three-pointers, followed by Andrew Stobart led Eastern with nine points. Jett Facemyer and Chase Cook each added seven points, Dylan Swatzel had two, while Grayson Wolfe and Daschle Facemyer each had one point.

Belpre was led by Deijon Bedgood with 13 points, followed by Nick Therriault with 12. Nathan Mason and Brennen Ferrell both marked 11 points, Tavian Miller had four, Sam Petty marked three, while Zach Pribble and Logan Plummer each marked two.

Eastern was 9-of-14 from the free throw line for 64.3 percent, while Belpre was 20-of-29 for 69 percent. EHS will look for revenge on January 31 when Belpre visits Tuppers Plains.

Wish granted — Woman, 95, returns to work
Spends lunch hour greeting customers at eatery

Helen Facemire

While many people may want to get away from their jobs, for Helen Facemire going back to work for at least a day has been a dream for many years.
Luckily for the 95-year-old resident of Cumming Nursing Center, staff members often set up wishes for those who live there through a national program called Second Wind Dreams.
Facemire’s wish was granted Tuesday when they arranged for her to spend the lunch hour greeting customers at the Chick-fil-A restaurant on Atlanta Road.
Facemire’s daughter, Kathy Butcher, said her mother worked for nearly 25 years at the Chick-fil-A location in East Point, near the Atlanta airport.
Butcher said her mom began the job when she was nearly 6
0 and retired from the restaurant at 84. It was her first job outside of the home.
“She always talks about her time working at Chick-fil-A,” Butcher said. “She was really excited about getting to greet customers again today.”
Mike Ridzon, operator of the local Chick-fil-A, said he and his staff were delighted to welcome Facemire and several Cumming Nursing Center staff members.
“I’m just lucky to be in the position where we can engage this and let this happen,” he said. “What I understand about Helen is she did a great job … I talked with [the operator] she worked for and she couldn’t say enough about Helen.”
Ridzon said he was blown away by the strong impact her employment with the company had on Facemire’s life.
“I know a lot of times we make impacts on our team members’ lives, but quite honestly you could have knocked me over with a feather when you listen to a 95-year-old person talk about how she worked from 59 years old to 84 years
old.
“Obviously, that experience had a great impact on her and I’m applauding the fact that [her operator] and team members had such an impact on her life. That’s about much more than just chicken.”

Coffee lovers in Hendersonville will soon have the chance to buy their favorite drink and give a little something back to the community at the same time.
The owner of a new coffee shop known as heBREWS Inc. plans to pour the shop's profits back into the community by giving away money to people who need a hand.
"None of us ever got where we are without somebody helping us," owner Shane Facemyer said. "We are not made to do life alone. Everybody needs a helping hand."
The coffee shop is in the Westside Village shopping center near the intersection of Mountain Road and N.C. Highway 191. The nonprofit business had been scheduled to open in early May, but Facemyer said it might be June before he is ready see customers.
Facemyer was the pastor of a Foursquare church in Shelby for more than eight years before moving to Hendersonville recently. He said his time serving as pastor of the church, which also had a coffee shop inside, and time he spent as a Starbucks employee led him to decide to open a coffee shop with a higher calling.
"We would like to give back to the local community," he said.
Facemyer said he hopes heBREWS will help people develop relationships with one another and God in a Christian environment.
"People are more relaxed and open when there is either a drink or food in their hand," he said. "My thrust is about having a relationship with God."
The business's website says visitors should not consider it a Christian coffeehouse.

PILESGROVE TWP. — Local emergency personnel fought a blaze that ripped through a residential garage late Sunday afternoon.
The two-car garage that sat on the rear of a property located on Avis Mill Road was engulfed in flames when fire officials arrived on the scene, according to Reliance Fire Co. Assistant Chief Brian Facemyer.
Upon arrival at 5:35 p.m., the vehicles inside of the garage, including an older model car and a couple all terrain vehicles, were safely removed, officials said late Monday afternoon.
According to the assistant chief, the owner of the property reported that he had been burning other debris on his property and had thought everything had been extinguished.
Officials said the fire was deemed accidental.
The fire extended a little to a small area of brush behind the garage, Facemyer said.
According to officials, some residents were home during the fire, but no one was injured. Officials did not tell how many residents were on the property.
The fire was under control at 5:47 p.m., but emergency personnel remained in the scene for safety until about 7:30 p.m.
Officials said the garage was destroyed and partially collapsed upon arrival.
Alloway Fire Co., Daretown Fire Co., Elmer Fire Dept., Mannington Fire Co., and American Legion Ambulance on Woodstown responded to assist.

Mike Facemyer
SALEM — Salem County Republican Party Chairman Michael Facemyer has announced that he will be stepping down from his leadership post several months before his term was due to expire.

Facemyer, 62, said that he will be resigning effective Dec. 7, after having served as the county GOP chairman since 2009.

His term as chairman was due to expire in June 2013, and though Facemyer said he was not planning to seek re-election, he said he decided to step down early to allow a smooth transition for his successor.

“You do a lot of things in life, and sometimes it’s just time for someone else to do those things,” Facemyer said on Tuesday. “My (chairmanship) is up in June, but doing it now gives my successor a chance to get acclimated and oriented before the next election cycle.”

Facemyer, an Alloway resident, oversaw some of the most successful years for Republicans in the past decade. Under his watch, Republicans took control of the Salem County freeholder board in 2011 for the first time in nine years, and successfully held onto that control in 2012.

“This most recent campaign was my fourth as county chair, and during that time I’ve been fortunate to see our organization grow. We went from the minority party to the majority, and there are challenges with that, but there is a great sense of accomplishment as well,” he said. “It’s been a successful run. I don’t claim responsibility for that, but that’s how it worked out.”

Facemyer said he decided to resign to spend more time with his wife and grandchildren, and to “do the things that retired people do.”

On his decision to resign seven months early, Facemyer explained that a term ending in June would have placed his successor in position where primary elections would have already passed, and the new person would have to take over in the middle of a General Election season.

“I’m not walking away or leaving the organization cold. This allows for a smoother, more orderly transition,” he said. “Hopefully whatever good has happened over these past years, the party can take that and build on it from there.”

The county Republican committee reorganizes every two years, during which a chairman, vice chairman, and other officers’ positions are voted on by county committee members. There are two county committee members – a man and a woman – for each voting district in the county.

Prior to taking over as chairman, Facemyer served as a Salem County freeholder for eight years until 2002. He also served as a member of Lower Alloways Creek Township Committee for 13 years, five of those years as mayor.

After receiving word of Facemyer’s decision, Freeholder Director Julie Acton, a Republican, said Facemyer’s presence and leadership would be dearly missed.

“Mike has been a loyal, faithful public servant, and he’s brought our party to a new level,” said Acton. “He’s had experience ranging from the township level to freeholder, and his experience and insight has benefited us to become better leaders.”

Acton went on to describe Facemyer as a role model and a mentor for many in the Salem County Republican organization.

She said he will be missed, especially for his connections at the state level, but added that the county Republican Party will welcome its next chairman with open arms.

No decisions have been made as of yet on who will named the next chairman. Party Vice Chair Bill Miller of Pilesgrove will likely serve as interim chairman until a successor for Facemyer is chosen.

Facemyer speculated that the county committee will likely make a decision quickly, possibly in the next four to six weeks.

Table Talk: Cookbook celebrates ramps

Kenny Kemp
Ramp, Potato, Spinach Gratin with Raclette Cheese features both ramp bulbs and greens, but doesn't overpower either in taste or the lingering odor typically associated with spring's "wild leek."
By Julie Robinson
Ramp Recipes below:

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- "Ramps The Cookbook -- Cooking with the Best Kept Secret of the Appalachian Trail" arrived on my desk with impeccable timing earlier this week. The unseasonably warm March temperatures have prompted the pungent allium to spring up a littler earlier this year. Wild foragers started gathering the herb several weeks ago, and they're appearing at little stands along West Virginia's roads and in specialty grocers like the Purple Onion in the Capitol Market.
I'll admit that I've never cooked with ramps. I've tasted diluted forms of them in sauces and jellies, but tales of ferociously lingering ramp odor making its presence known first in the diner's breath and later from his or her very pores scared me off.
Both Paul Kelly, publisher of the book above, and Allan Hathaway, owner of The Purple Onion in Capitol Market, urged me to remedy this sad omission in my culinary repertoire. Hathaway was especially firm on this point and said he wouldn't sell me the ramps for photographic purposes only -- I had to promise to cook and eat them.
I agreed and tackled the Ramp, Potato, Spinach Gratin with Raclette Cheese on page 24 of the cookbook. It's basically potatoes au gratin packed with an olfactory punch. I used a plastic cutting board for the ramps, reasoning that their flavor might linger in a wooden one. I also omitted the garlic called for in the recipe because I figure the ramps would add plenty of flavor.
The recipe came together easily and smelled delicious as it baked. My husband looked alarmed when I told him we were having ramps for dinner, but he pronounced the gratin to be delicious. I didn't notice any tenacious odor on either of us, nor did the people exercising near me the following morning turn up their noses. Then again, they might just be polite.
In the book's introduction, Glen Facemire Jr., owner of The Ramp Farm in Richwood, describes the ramp's flavor. "Its taste is somewhere between a garlic and an onion, except that it doesn't have sharp bite and it doesn't make you cry. It has a rich taste, not like anything else, and it lingers long after the last morsel has been eaten."
Ramp hunters have closely guarded foraging patches, which they harvest for personal use or to sell. At about $3 a bunch, ramps don't bring the same prices as springtime woodland treasures like morel mushrooms, fiddlehead ferns or ginseng, but the locations of the patches are still worth protecting.
A well-timed email from reader Linda Sapp arrived recently with tips for the conservation of ramp patches. She cited an article from organicgardening.com that advised harvesters to dig the wide-leaved onion, known also as wild leeks, with a sharp knife and to take no more than 15 percent of the plants growing there. The patch should emerge in a healthy form the following year.
Kelly, who grew up in Pittsburgh and lives there now, first tasted ramps in 1975 when he taught elementary school in Tucker County.
"I'd never even heard of ramps. It was spring and the kids were all talking about having ramps. What are those," Kelly wondered. The school principal went from classroom to classroom and warned the students not to eat ramps.
"The next day every classroom would reek of ramps. He'd ask who had them, but nobody ever admitted it," Kelly said.
Curious about ramps, Kelly asked local friends to take him ramp hunting. They wandered into the woods where they dug ramps and ate them raw. Kelly bit into the ramps as well and has been eating and loving them ever since. Back then, he ate them mainly with brown beans and fried potatoes.
He returns every spring to the small cabin he still owns in Tucker County for a ramp fix. He visits and dines at some of the many ramp festivals in the area. To his delight, chefs across the country have discovered ramps and are incorporating them into gourmet cuisine, partially because efficient overnight transportation ensures their fresh delivery to chefs.
The ramps' increasing popularity prompted him to compile recipes from renowned chefs and from other sources for a cookbook.
"There were a few ramp recipes published by groups like women's clubs, but I've never seen a cookbook all about ramps. I thought what the heck," Kelly said. "Chefs in New York, on the East Coast and even in the Deep South have discovered ramps. They're a go-to food. People all over the country are hearing about them."
Old-time ramp lovers tend to prefer ramps prepared in the traditional way, sautéed and served with fried potatoes, brown beans, eggs and ham or bacon. Kelly's not bothered by the strong aroma, but he's an admitted fan of onions and garlic. He did suggest to novices that the greens, which are frequently and tragically tossed, are milder than the bulbs.
"I think if you cook them longer, that definitely tones down the flavor some," he said.
For the truly timid, Kelly said relatively mild leeks, also a springtime favorite, can be substituted for ramps in most of the recipes in the cookbook.
But you can't count yourself among the seasoned ramp ranks if you do.

Hershel Facemyre
Chances are good that tucked away in boxes under or in attics in Nitro are
Troves of old photos depicting life in the town since its found¬ing in 1918 or even earlier.
At least that's what the Nitro Museum Association is bank¬ on.
NMA, President Hershel Facemyre is asking community residents to search through their old photos of Nitro in the hope that they might find ones of historical interest.
Selected photographs would be put on display in the Nitro Museum and possibly later be included in a pictorial history book.
“We're actively seeking to collect historical photos of Nitro," Facemyre said.
The museum already has photographs of the town's ,World War I-era explosives plants. The town was built to 'Supply explosives for WWl.
The association is hoping that longtime Nitro residents have collections of snapshots of days gone by in Nitro.
“We're trying to collect more community-type" photos, he said.
These could be photos of various community functions, such as school events, holiday activities, street fairs, unique celebrations and events. Pho¬tos related to the town's chem¬ical industries over the years are also needed.
Facemyre, a Nitro native, said there were two ferry boat operations in Nitro before the Nitro-St. Albans bridge was constructed; one was called Lee's Ferry.
"We would love to have pho¬tos of that," he said.
Nitro also has some "lost cemeteries, with some Civil War burials." Photos of those old cemeteries would also be welcome.
Facemyre would also like photos of Ridenour Lake and dam being built. That project was a flood control measure, he said.
Knowing that the original photos are important to the owners, the pictures would be scanned and then' returned to them. The museum association is exploring the best technology to use for the scanning, Facemyre said.
If enough photos can be col¬lected, the museum associa¬tion is "looking at the possibility of a pictorial history of Nitro" in book form, he said.

Summersville Lake getting state's only lighthouse

Gary Facemire, a student in Joe Hypes' welding class at the Nicholas County Career and Technical Center, grinds a step that will be part of a 120-piece spiral staircase within the lighthouse.
by Amber Marra
Reported in the Daily Mail

MT. NEBO, W.Va. - As the guy trying to build a lighthouse on Summersville Lake, Steve Keblesh is used to getting some strange looks.
The huge white tube lying on his 60-acre campground hasn't helped.
"When we first said that we wanted to build a lighthouse, people in the construction and contracting community looked at us like we were nuts," Keblesh said.
That's not the case anymore. Keblesh, 52, and his wife, Donna, 51, have worked with students at the Nicholas County Career and Technical Center and the Fayette Institute of Technology to design the lighthouse. Engineering professionals have been overseeing the work of their younger counterparts.
How Keblesh obtained the huge white tube that will act as the body of his lighthouse resulted from a stroke of bad luck for the folks at Invenergy who were building a wind farm on Beech Ridge in Greenbrier County last year.
One night in 2009, a sudden torrential rainfall undermined the foundation of one of Invenergy's industrial wind turbines. That sent the 72,000-pound tube rolling down a hill at top speed, leveling trees and causing several dents in its steel body, rendering it unusable as a windmill.
Enter Rick Butler, one of the workers who traveled from Canada to build the Beech Ridge wind farm. He was staying at the Kebleshes' Summersville Lake retreat while he worked on the windmills.
Keblesh was surprised one day when Butler came to him and said his company was trying to get rid of the damaged body of a windmill.
Suddenly building a beacon at the edge of Summersville Lake didn't seem like such a far-fetched idea.
But why build a lighthouse in Nicholas County? Keblesh has been asked this many times and has a simple answer.
"Well, we just keep getting so many commercial ocean liners bumping into us," he says with a laugh.
Keblesh actually thinks the lighthouse could bring more tourism to his area in the form of "soft adventuring," or recreational activities that older folks or children can take part in.
"With that thought in mind, what could be better than climbing a lighthouse?" he said.
After hearing the 100-foot tube was up for grabs, Keblesh set to work at making sure it didn't get sent to Pittsburgh to be melted down as scrap metal.
The tube sold at 32 cents per pound. At 72,000 pounds, it wasn't a cheap purchase. The price came to a little more than $23,000.
Keblesh can't yet estimate the total cost of his project but figures it will hit six figures.
A big part of the cost was incurred in transporting the tube from Greenbrier to Nicholas County.
When the time came to move it and all the wide-load and pilot car permits had been filed with the state Department of Transportation, Keblesh ran into a snag at the New River Gorge Bridge. Traffic had been reduced to one lane because of construction.
An alternative route had to be taken to avoid the bridge, meaning the tube traveled more than 100 miles to Charleston, then Flatwoods and back down to Summersville via U.S. 19.
"At that point we looked at our budget and realized it was shot to heck anyways," he said.
On a sunny day in June 2010, the Kebleshes watched as a truck toting their newly acquired lighthouse body-to-be backed into its temporary resting place at the campground.

"I'll go through the boxes. It's very important to us to have these' things protected and available," he said.

High school boys basketball: Brayden Facemyer's triple-double leads Liahona

Published: Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 12:15 a.m. MST
By Kevin Long, For the Deseret News
EUREKA, UT — Brayden Facemyer recorded the second triple-double in school history with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Liahona Warriors to a 88-45 victory over Tintic in prep basketball action Friday night.
“Brayden is developing into an unstoppable team player,” Liahona coach Jeremy Long said.
Teammates Brandon Nichols (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Helaman Neyra (13, 10) each finished with double-doubles, while Matt Comer came off the bench to score 14 points. Jordan Salazar led Tintic with 12 points.
Tintic ran a “triangle-and-two" defense for most of the night, but Liahona countered by inserting Comer into the lineup. Because of the constant double-teaming of Nichols and Facemyer, Comer was left open behind the arc and he drilled four three-pointers on the night.
In all 11 Liahona players scored at least two points.
Many of the Liahona rebounds came in the second period when its tenacious defense kept the Miners from scoring a field goal to lead 48-21 at the half. Although it didn't score a field goal in the second period, Tintic went 8 of 9 from the free-throw line in the period.
In addition to his triple-double, Facemyer had four blocks.

Cumberland County
Hopewell incumbent Facemyer sworn in Wednesday night
Greg Adomaitis/The News of Cumberland County
Posted: 01/05/2011 8:36 PM

HOPEWELL TWP. —
The township committee welcomed, for a second time, Republican Greg Facemyer into office for his three-year term.
The incumbent rejoined fellow Republicans Bruce Hankins, Paul Ritter, Joseph Shoemaker and Robin Freitag on Wednesday night.
His victory maintained the all-Republican committee, though challenged by a Democrat in November.
Facemyer was sworn in by Cumberland County Clerk Gloria Noto, who administered the oath of office.
Alongside Facemyer was wife, Bonnie.
Noto gave Facemyer her best wishes with the coming year and term.
He thanked all in attendance; including wife, parents, township staff and colleagues.
Among colleagues were committee members.
“We don’t always agree on everything,” he said, “but we can come out and still be able to be friends and do the right thing in our hearts.”
The coming year promises to bring development, both physical and economic, to Hopewell.
“We’ve got a lot on our plates this year,” said Facemyer.
The township will soon embark on drafting its liquor license, which was approved in November.

Phil Kabler: Lawmakers dine on lobbyists' dime
By Phil Kabler
Advertiser
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Legislators haven't done as much traveling to out-of-town conferences this year as in the past, but when they did travel, the state's top-shelf lobbyists were sure to follow, according to financial disclosures filed with the Ethics Commission.
The big event this summer was the 64th annual meeting of Southern Legislative Conference at the Charleston Place Hotel in the "other" Charleston.
On Aug. 1, lobbyists Patti Hamilton, John Ruddick, Bill Carper, Nelson Robinson, Rob Casto, Larry Swann, Chris Marr, Pat McCune, Hallie Mason, Alison Patient and Heather Dinsmore kicked in a total of $6,959 to host a Aug. 1 West Virginia night dinner at the Cypress restaurant.
Attendees included House Speaker Rick Thompson, Delegates Bobbi Hatfield, Charlene Marshall, Tim Ennis, Bonnie Brown, Jack Yost, Danny Wells, Dave Pethel, Richard Iaquinta, Bob Beach, Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin, Sens. Roman Prezioso, Richard Browning, Doug Facemire, Karen Facemyer, Ed Bowman, and Jeff Kessler.
(Most legislators attended the dinner with their spouses, according to the disclosure.)
The previous day, Robinson took Bowman, Facemire, Facemyer, Tomblin, Thompson, and their spouses, and Browning and Kessler, to dinner at the Charleston Plaza, at a cost of $857.64.
Robinson had the highest total spending of any lobbyist during the May-August reporting period, at $7,374.
That's because, as lobbyist for Mountaineer Racetrack and Casino, he reported the expenses for the racetrack/casino's VIP reception for the West Virginia Derby race Aug. 7. The cost of the reception totaled $11,478, including $5,452 (or $94 each) for the 58 public officials in attendance, including members of the state Lottery and Racing commissions.
Attendees included 10 senators, with Judiciary Chairman Kessler being the ranking member, and nine delegates, headed by Finance Chairman Harry Keith White, D-Mingo.
Charles Town Races lobbyist Larry Puccio reported spending a total of $728.23 during the period, including $206.97 for dinner for Chairman White and his wife, with the remaining $521.26 spent for "sticky note pads" distributed to all members of the Legislature.
Also, Bill Raney of the West Virginia Coal Association reported hosting a "number of legislative members" for the association's annual meeting Aug. 5-7 at The Greenbrier, but said he could not yet report expenses, since the association had not received an invoice by the deadline for filing the Ethics disclosure.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010
Big Walnut picked up a hard-fought OCC-Capital Division win Tuesday in Sunbury, dropping visiting Hayes 4-1 thanks to one of its most balanced efforts of the season.
Four different Golden Eagles scored as Shane Facemyer, Joel Craig, Zach Mason and Corey Gibson each found the back of the net.
The Pacers’ lone goal came from Nate Spahr, who fired a pass from Phoenix Neitzelt just past the reach of BW keeper A.J. Fleak.
Fleak finished with six saves for Big Walnut while Jeff Mengerink had two for Hayes.
Orange 1, Watkins Memorial 0
The Pioneers gutted out a tight league win over the host Warriors Tuesday, getting a first-half goal from Alec Binger to account for the difference.
Colin Evans had five saves for Orange in the shutout.

SNYDER TO AWARD DEDICATED BAND MEMBERS WITH RINGS AT THE PEP RALLY

Zina Facemire

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins will honor more than thirty veteran Redskin Marching Band members with 20-62 years of commitment, providing them rings to honor their dedication. The rings read each band member’s name, “Honor, Strength, Tradition,” and the number of years each has performed with the first ever NFL marching band.

For more than 70 years, this Washington Redskins Marching Band has led sell-out crowds in the team fight song, "Hail to the Redskins!" They are one of only two pro football marching bands in existence today.

The all-volunteer ensemble formed in 1937 when George Preston Marshall brought the Redskins to Washington, D.C., with the goal of entertaining fans from the moment they walked into the stadium until the time they left to go home.

"Hail to the Redskins" made its debut on Aug. 17, 1938 as the official fight song of the Washington Redskins. The song was written by renowned band leader Barnee Breeskin and the lyrics were written by Hollywood movie star Corinne Griffith, the wife of team founder and owner George Preston Marshall.

The marching band will be performing at the pep rally and send-off party Saturday, September 11, 2010 as well as throughout Sunday afternoon in the tailgating areas of the parking lot at FedExField. Come support your band and honor the men and women who have volunteered for many years.

Band Members with 20 plus years -

Edward Greene, Garry Walker, Harry Horning, Darryl Scott, Greg Rodgers, Lee Culbreth, Howard Lessey, Zina Facemire, Kenneth Fry, Cheryl Casnoff, Eric Summers, Tony Cardenas, Harold Rhoads and Tom Otis

Matthew Facemire announces his candidacy for Braxton, County Circuit Clerk office, Braxton County, WV.

I grew up knowing how important elections are, how lucky I am to live in a country where I am free to cast my vote however I chose, and how grateful I am to the men and women fighting to protect that right. My name is Matthew “Matt” Facemire, and this election will be especially important to me as I am running for Braxton County Circuit Clerk.
To quote author Leo Buscaglia, “Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God,” and as a Christian I believe this whole heartedly. I can think of no better way to use my talents than to help the people of Braxton County, my home. Service to others has been a fundamental aspect of my upbringing; for decades, my father and grandfather, uncles and great uncles have worked hard to literally build our community through Facemire Brothers Construction, and Facemire Foods, Inc.
Motivated to work hard for my own success and that of others, I worked for my family’s business throughout my teenage years and early twenties and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Glenville State College in 2008 where I was treasurer, for "Students In Free Enterprise" along with being a member of the Young Democrats. Following graduation I was hired by Arnett & Foster, the largest Certified Public Accounting and Consulting firm in West Virginia. As an accountant, I work with companies of all sizes to improve their financial successes while conserving their assets; skills that are essential for any potential public official.
I am a member of the Sutton Baptist Church, where I serve on the finance committee, and a member of the West Virginia Democratic Party. I am the son of Jeff and Diana (Drake) Facemire of Sutton, and the grandson of Eldred and Doris Drake of Flatwoods, and the late Eugene and Barbara Facemire, formerly of Sutton. I was recently married in December 2009, and my wife Michelle (Shaver) and [step]son Jadyn and I reside in Sutton. I hope I have conveyed to you how hard I, Matt Facemire will work for you as Braxton County Circuit Clerk, how eager I am to do the job, and how grateful I am for your votes, support, and prayers.

West Virginia Gets a New Area Code–Start Dialing 10-digit Local Calls

By: States: West Virginia | Source: AARP.org |

To ensure a continuing supply of telephone numbers, the 681 area code will be added to the same geographic area served by the 304 area code, which is the entire state of West Virginia.
Get ready to change the way you dial your local calls.
Local Dialing Procedure Change
The new dialing procedure for local calls requires callers to dial the area code and the seven digit telephone number. This means that all local calls from the 304 area code that are currently dialed with seven digits will need to be dialed using ten digits (the area code and the seven digit telephone number). The dialing procedure for long distance or operator assisted calls will not change.
Beginning July 26, 2008, you should begin using the new 10-digit dialing procedure for local calls.
Effective February 28, 2009, you must begin using the new local dialing procedure or your call will not be completed.
As early as March 28, 2009, new telephone lines or services may be assigned with the new 681 area code.
If you have pre-programmed speed dial lists using seven digits in your phones, these will need to be updated with 10-digit numbers.
What Will Remain the Same?
• Your telephone number, including current area code, will not change
• Your local calls are still local calls, even though they must be dialed using ten digits
• You can still dial three digits to reach 911 and 411
